Greg Matulionis: Carpenter, Craftsman, Artist
You might think that Greg Matulionis, principal of Sawdust Therapy and master carpenter and planner, was born with a hammer in his hand. That’s probably not too far from the truth.
Greg first learned the art of carpentry in his dad’s woodworking shop. As a youngster, he says, “I was always the helper, the go-getter, the glue spreader.” A quick study, Greg made his own waterbed as a kid. By the time he was 14, he was running his own custom, solid wood framing business on the side.
These days, Greg is proud to tell you that he has built most of the furniture in the home he shares with his wife Barb. He’s enthusiastic about the many projects he has completed over the years, and most enjoys problem-solving that requires applying the highest carpentry standards.
Sawdust Therapy solves problems
“When people call me for remodeling and custom carpentry projects that nobody else wants to do because they can’t figure it out, I love to take on that challenge,” Greg explains. “Sawdust Therapy is great at solving structural problems, creating unique pieces, and designing features that are almost a work of art. I love to create stuff that makes me think!”
Greg has built expansive porches with custom-turned balusters, pergolas, medieval gates of wood and cast iron, and unique wood doors with curved tops, to name just a few of many custom projects. He’s also the planner and the chief doer behind multi-tier decks, screened-in porches, room additions, and built-in bookcases.
Sawdust Therapy facilitates many of its projects with computer-aided design (CAD), which enables accurate representation of the finished project, as well as firm estimating and revision capabilities.
Goal: a job well done
“The bottom line for me is the homeowner’s satisfaction,” Greg emphasizes. “They want a job well done, and Sawdust Therapy delivers that every single time. When a customer tells me, ‘This is one of the best things I have ever done to my home,’ I couldn’t be happier!”
A graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Greg majored in photography and minored in sculpture. With a well-trained eye for commercial and residential architectural photography, Greg worked as an in-house photographer for FRCH (formerly SDI) for several years before starting Matulionis Photography. After about ten years, Barb and Greg expanded the firm to include design services. Matulionis Photography and Design served a wide range of clients for another ten years.
Greg has also served as a project manager for an exhibitry and trade show design firm. Among his accomplishments: a major exhibit for the CIA and involvement in a traveling exhibit about Pope John Paul II.
