Mid-Century Modern Kitchen Renovation, Wyoming, OH
Project Description in the Client's Own Words:
“I am a designer and an artist, so I found designing and implementing a kitchen renovation an exciting and satisfying experience. A great result is based on research and finding the right people. My husband and I searched for a year to find the right general contractor. We were looking for a direct individual who we could trust to do the work passionately and well while being mindful of deadlines. We also wanted to work with someone who could solve problems creatively while improving our design/plan. Also important to us was sourcing materials and bringing in elements to give the kitchen a unique and playful flavor while maintaining a sophisticated look. A tall order that was met when we discovered Greg and his crew at Sawdust Therapy. Our finished kitchen exceeds our expectations, and is an absolute pleasure to use each and every day.”
Thank you, Sawdust Therapy!

Kitchen
The floor is solid hardwood from a Canadian manufacturer called Preverco that is known for have very tight tolerances in their manufacturing. The color is Komodo.
The cabinets are special order from Hyde Park Lumber, and the manufacturer is DuraSupreme out of White Bear Lake, MN. The style is Bria Frameless Cabinets. They have a Moda Cherry Veneer with clove stain finish.
The island is a natural quartzite called White Maccabus. All of the other countertops are Caesarstone in the color Blizzard.
Barn Door
The barn door was designed by the homeowner and fabricated by Algin. The technique they used was to lay water on the metal and let it sit until it rusted to the preferred amount. Steel wool and a hand sander were used with fine-grit sandpaper to knock the rust down and make it artful. Three coats of polycrylic were applied to stop the rusting and protect the door. The client described door as looking like something from the Air Force Museum in Dayton - a riveted aluminum airplane hangar-feel with a nod to steampunk.
Coffee Nook
The name of the tile is "Zing," manufactured by Rookwood. They chose Rookwood as an homage to their Cincinnati heritage, and to bring an element of the history of our city into their home. The colors used are Snowflake, Silk Blossom, and Hunauma Bay. The Gloss Crackle Finish was used to give the kitchen an artisan feeling of warmth. It’s in the area of the kitchen called "Coffee Corner."
Shelf
The dividing wall between the living room and kitchen afforded the opportunity to create pass-though shelving with custom-cut glass and specially hardware.
